Wasp Scanner | Datalogic Scanner | Metrologic Scanner

Handheld barcode scanners are everywhere from point of sale to backroom stocking situations. If you have a retail location, warehouse, or any business that has inventory, your employees (even if that's just yourself) need to be using a mobile barcode scanner.

If you're wondering where to start, check out the Symbol handheld scanners, but there are other options, too. That's what this post is about. Let's talk a bit about the Wasp scanner, Datalogic scanner, and Metrologic scanner devices.

Wasp is a company that not only produces the bar code reading hardware but also the inventory management software and printing solutions. If you'd prefer that all of your inventory management, tagging, and scanning products were from the same product line, then Wasp may be your best choice.

Metrologic has been acquired by Honeywell, so they have a lot of power behind their product line. Their scanner line includes general purpose as well as industrial bar code readers. It would be hard to ignore such an established brand.

Acording to their corporate website, Datalogic "is a world-class producer of bar code readers, data collection mobile computers, RFID systems and photoelectric sensors for the industrial automation sector." In 1974 they created the world's first grocery store scanner, so they know the business well.

There are plenty of options to choose from, and these are not the only suppliers of bar code reader technology. We will continue to bring you general handheld scanner information and product-specific personal barcode reader information to cover your handheld barcode scanner inquires.

Cordless Barcode Scanner

Cordless Barcode Scanner Symbol HandheldThe Symbol LS4278B (B for black as shown here) is a rechargeable cordless barcode scanner. The Symbol charging base is made with industrial electric contacts that can withstand hundreds of thousands of insertions, and has been engineered to mitigate problems due to liquid spillage.

This Symbol handheld model employs Bluetooth technology for wireless data transfers between the scanner and its base cradle charging station. Bluetooth provides you the security that you need in your industrial and retail locations while offering the reliability and freedom necessary for your cordless applications.

Workers using this cordless barcode scanner will be able to move around freely and still scan items that a corded model would allow. Though, through this added mobility, worker productivity will increase because scans will no longer be constrained to a tethered reach, and again, thanks to the benefits of Bluetooth, a compromise of security will not have to be made to allow for this new freedom afforded by this cordless symbol handlheld.

Handheld Computer Barcode Scanner

If you want a lightweight, small, affordable, corded bar code scanner, check out the the Symbol Handheld LS2208.

Another thing that this Symbol handheld scanner has is an ability to withstand multiple 1.5 meter (about 5 feet) falls to the hardest of surfaces.

Of course, you'll be concerned about connectivity, and the LS2208 has you pretty well covered there, too. Onboard, I has multiple interfaces so that you can connect it to just about any host platform. This will help you protect your investment, because future platform upgrades might have different interfaces than your current equipment.

About Symbol Handheld

I figured that my first post should describe what Symbol Handheld is about. This is a place where we can discuss bar code scanners and wireless network management tools. Who knows, we might get off topic here and there and talk about other handheld technologies like portable computers and alternate uses for devices typically intended for handheld gaming.

In my posts, I plan to discuss things like cordless general purpose bar code scanners, VOIP-enabled wireless bar code scanners, rugged bar code scanners, and handheld digital imager scanners. Hmm, I guess those are all scanners. Maybe at some point, I'll have to change the name to Symbol Handheld Scanner or just Symbol Scanner.

If you have any comments or questions about bar code scanners or the website, please leave a comment here on Symbol Handheld.
